66 Tredworth Road

Damp Control
At 66 Tredworth Road, Gloucestershire College's Renovation Department purchased a Victorian house in 2016 for construction students to renovate as part of their coursework. However, they faced a major setback when the property was found to be severely damp, creating a unique challenge in ensuring both student learning and structural integrity.

The Project

In the face of a severely damp house and the need for essential certifications for future sale, Gloucestershire College, under the guidance of Rachel Capener, the Renovation Project Manager, confronted a unique challenge. Traditional damp-proofing methods were unsuitable for their educational project. Guardian Waterproofing swiftly responded, tackling the damp issue and providing valuable educational demonstrations, including installing a damp-proof membrane to fix a leaky roof at no additional expense.

The Challenges

  • The property was afflicted with extensive damp issues, with damp readings that were exceptionally high, posing a significant risk to the renovation project
  • Traditional damp-proofing methods involving plaster removal and re-plastering were not feasible due to the educational nature of the project, requiring a specialized solution that allowed students to participate in the renovations
  • We approached the 66 Tredworth Road project with a specialised strategy designed to mitigate the extensive damp issue while respecting the educational context. We employed advanced damp-proofing techniques, including the installation of a damp-proof membrane to address the leaky roof, all without disrupting the educational goals of the renovation project. Additionally, we provided technical demonstrations to the students, emphasizing modern, efficient methodologies over traditional chemical injections. The college needed to obtain all the necessary certifications to ensure the property could be sold after the renovation, adding an extra layer of complexity to the project
