Rectory Farm

Deck Waterproofing, Structural Waterproofing
Nestled in the heart of the Cotswold countryside, this former barn was given planning status for a new country home. We designed a basement waterproofing scheme to protect its lower ground floors from flooding.

The Project

The stunning 12,000 square-foot property at Rectory Farm recreated the style of a 17th century manor house. Unusually, the building was buried into the hillside in order to emulate the look of a single-storey building from the front. This meant that there was the potential for serious water ingress and damage to the lower ground floors, which would be exacerbated by the dense clay on which the property was set.

The Challenges

  • Dealing with a continuous threat of flooding
  • Handling issues around the planning of the building

Our Approach

In order to combat the house’s ultra-close proximity to the hillside, we designed a scheme in accordance with BS8102:2022 that used a combination of Type A and Type C waterproofing systems. In addition, there were various podium roofs and decked areas that required additional waterproofing – for this, we used spray-applied rubber membranes, which are fully cured within two hours. Overall, the project took six months to complete.
